Review: Everwoven: A Memoir. A Reckoning written and performed by Megan Margherio

Ok, so this is not the genre that I usually cover, but these stories, true stories, need to be covered and highlighted so that people out there discover them. I’ve listened to more than 1,700 audiobooks, and Everwoven is easily one of the hardest I’ve experienced. Not because of pacing or structure, but because of what it asks you to sit with.

This isn’t a traditional memoir. It’s fragmented, reflective, and at times deeply uncomfortable. Megan Margherio shares some of the most painful moments of her life, but it never feels like it’s done for impact as there’s a clear intention here. This is about facing those experiences, trying to understand them, and slowly working toward something like healing.

There’s no clean narrative or easy resolution. I moved alongside her through memories, thoughts, and emotions that feel immediate and unfiltered. At times, it feels like being inside someone’s mind. That won’t work for everyone, but for me it clicked and it stayed with me. 

Hearing Megan Margherio tell her own story, in her own voice as the narrator for the audiobook version, adds a level of honesty you can’t replicate. You can feel the weight behind the words, you can hear her emotion, her pain, and that makes it hit much, much harder.

This audiobook deals with very heavy themes, including trauma, abuse, and mental health struggles. If you’re dealing with depression, suicidal thoughts, or have experienced abuse, it’s worth approaching this carefully, as it may be triggering.

Everwoven: A Memoir. A Reckoning is definitely not an easy listen, but a deeply honest one that although is uncomfortable and dealt with subjects a lot of people may consider taboo, hopefully we be used to help those who went or are going through similar painful experiences!
