Bed Size Dimensions: The Complete Guide

Bed Size Dimensions: The Complete Guide

Whether you’re furnishing a master bedroom, a guest room, or a kid’s room, choosing the right bed frame is important to creating a space that’s both comfortable and proportional to the size of the room.

That’s why we created a guide to common bed sizes, their dimensions, and best uses for each type of bed– in addition to other factors to take into consideration. Let’s dive in:

Other Considerations

If you’re having trouble deciding which size bed frame is right for your space, consider the following:

Room Size

When shopping for a bed, the most important thing to keep in mind (besides your own comfort, of course!) is the size of your bedroom. We recommend measuring the size of the room to make sure there’s enough space for the bedframe, as well as nightstands and other furniture you might want in your space.

Our rule of thumb? To factor in three feet of space around the bed to make sure there’s enough space to move around.

Mattress Thickness

Once you’ve landed on the size bed frame that’s right for your space, the next step for many is choosing the right mattress. We always recommend keeping in mind that mattress thickness can affect the overall height of your bed to choose one that complements your bed frame and other furniture, such as nightstands.

Future Needs

For most, the purchase of a bed frame is a (very) long-term purchase. That’s why we recommend considering your long-term needs when choosing a bed frame, because a bed that suits your current situation might not be ideal in a few years!

The team at Vermont Woods Studios is proud to offer a variety of solid wood bed frames handcrafted in Vermont with premium American hardwoods like cherry, maple, and walnut. Once you’ve decided on the right bed size for your space, be sure to take a look at our collection.
