Products and technologies are evolving at an unprecedented rate. As an IT professional seeking a career as a field technician, you are now more than ever expected to wear multiple hats to adapt to the ever-changing IT landscape. Our latest Cisco Certified Technician (CCT) program update responds to this growing demand, providing value to candidates and employers.
What was once three offerings will now be streamlined into one comprehensive certification: Cisco Certified Technician (CCT) Field Technician. Continue reading to learn more about how this new CCT certification addresses current Cisco technologies, the convergence of various networking domains, and alignment with the current Cisco product portfolio.
The New Certification: CCT Field Technician
The updated CCT Field Technician certification represents a significant shift from the previous model. It will merge the CCT Collaboration, CCT Data Center, and CCT Routing and Switching certifications, incorporating updated legacy topics and introducing new Cisco products. This integration moves the program from a specialized approach to a more multi-faceted one that reflects the current IT environment.
Whether you want to establish a strong foundation in Cisco hardware and components or enhance your existing role with Cisco hardware replacement procedures and best practices—this is the Cisco certification for you.
The New Learning Path: Supporting Cisco Devices for Field Technicians (FLDTEC)
To prepare for the new certification, we have created the Supporting Cisco Devices for Field Technicians (FLDTEC) Learning Path. This streamlined Learning Path replaces the three previous trainings: Supporting Cisco Collaboration Devices (CLTECH), Supporting Cisco Data Center System Devices (DCTECH), and Supporting Cisco Routing and Switching Network Devices (RSTECH).
The FLDTEC Learning Path offers several advantages:
- Reduced Training Time: The training has been optimized from 25-29 hours to a focused 10 hours, covering the most critical aspects needed for the exam.
- Interactive Learning: The training includes more interactive items to enhance engagement and retention.
- Comprehensive Coverage: In addition to the previous topics offered, this training also covers information on unified computing system (UCS), hardware identification, cabling, configuration backup and restoration, and software upgrades/downgrades.
Though this learning path does not offer Continuing Education (CE) credits, you will gain valuable skills needed for the exam and work as a field technician.
The New Exam: Supporting Cisco Devices for Field Technicians (500-150 FLDTEC) v1.0
The Learning Path will directly prepare you for the new Supporting Cisco Devices for Field Technicians (500-150 FLDTEC) v1.0 exam, which offers several improvements from the previous versions:
- Decreased Duration: The single exam is now 120 minutes, down from the previous three exams with 90-minute formats.
- More Comprehensive: It now includes 100 overarching items, a decrease from 240 in the previous versions.
- Broad Topic Coverage: Exam topics expand to include networking foundations, everyday service tasks and tools, Cisco software, infrastructure and collaboration architecture, hardware replacement, UCS, and data center architecture.
There are no prerequisites for the exam. However, we strongly recommend that you understand the exam topics before testing, which you can learn about in the Learning Path.
Looking Ahead
The new CCT Field Technician certification and exam will launch on December 12, 2024, through Pearson Vue. Training will be available on Cisco U. starting December 5, 2024.
The current CCT certifications, including Collaboration, Data Center, and Routing and Switching, will be phased out and no longer available after February 9, 2025. Existing certification holders can continue to use their current certifications until they expire but will need to take the new Supporting Cisco Devices for Field Technicians (500-150 FLDTEC) v1.0 exam for recertification.
