A paraplegic bull rider and his new home aide fall in love as they pick up the pieces of their lives in the second book in the popular Griffith Brothers series.
Rule #1 of almost dying: Make sure someone knows your passwords. It’s hard to cancel your phone plan if you’re dead.
Rule #2 of almost dying: Make sure your house is clean before you walk up the steps to the pearly gates. It makes selling off your life easier.
All it took was eight seconds for Ray Griffith to win the biggest competition of his life, and one second to lose everything except that championship buckle. He’d left his family’s cattle ranch at eighteen with no intention of ever coming back for good. Now he’s back, learning to navigate life in a wheelchair with a beautiful disaster attempting to burn the house down.
Rule #1 of trying to not get fired: Don’t piss off the grumpy bull rider.
Rule #2 of trying to not get fired: When you do get fired, keep your chin up. The grumpy bull rider was hot.
It was just a little fire. Tiny, even. But that didn’t change the fact that Ray Griffith didn’t want her anywhere near him. But they reached an agreement: if she ignores him, he doesn’t fire her. Easy, right? Turns out not so much if they can’t keep their hands off each other.
I don’t read a lot of contemporary romances, but when brothers are involved, I can’t help but grab the book and snuggle under a cozy blanket while sipping a hot drink. This is the second novel in the Griffith Brothers series, and while each focuses on a single brother’s romance, the family ties, and ranch history, I recommend devouring them in the order of their release.
In eight seconds, Ray’s life was forever changed. Ray was a champion bullfighter, and while he got a championship buckle, it left him a paraplegic. The first part of the book is his recovery, including experimental treatments before Brooke walks into his life. Ray now lives on the ranch with a home built specifically for him, and the family has been sending in day helpers. None last more than a day or two, that is until Brooke.
Brooke is a lovable, accident-prone aide who is down on her luck and one paycheck away from homelessness. I absolutely loved their back-and-forth banter, the mishaps, and the undeniable chemistry between them.
Meddling family, found family, and character growth gave way to a heartwarming romance that curled my toes. I laughed, cried, and cheered for them. Gates brought these characters to life, allowing me to connect from the family matriarch to the wives. The Griffith family is special, and so is their love for the ranch and the women they invite to share their lives with. The epilogues were the icing on the cake, and I closed the book with a smile.
