I astral projected to cheat at poker and landed myself in witness protection with a brooding fire demon. Oops.
Now my family’s hiding out in northern Maine in a busted-up café my brother won in a shady bet. The place is a disaster: cursed sugar jars, haunted espresso machine, and oh yeah…a smoldering Ifrit who runs the interdimensional bar behind the walk-in freezer. He’s all fire, fury, and don’t-touch-my-cups energy, and we clash over everything.
We share a dangerously thin veil between realms we’re determined to fix—since we don’t want to see any more of each other than we have to. But when a pissed off mob mage sends his goons looking for me, suddenly Mr. Smoke-and-Glare decides I’m his problem to protect.
The longer I stay, the more I want to know what it’d feel like to melt under him. He might be bound to the bar, but I’m bound to him by something else entirely: temptation, tension and the growing certainty that this fiery demon might be the only one who can keep my family alive.
If he doesn’t burn my sanity (or my panties) to ash first.
Each of the novels in the Getting Cozy with Demons can be read as a standalone. In Oh No! There’s an Infrit in my Cosmic Cafe, Jade get’s caught up in a police raid at the gambling hall she is using her magical skill set to get her family out of debt and free her family from the Chinese mafia imprisoning them abroad.
After agreeing to testify, she and her family (her teenage brother and grandmother) decide to hide out in Maine after they win an abandoned cafe, The Cosmic Cafe. Only something is different in the kitchen where the veil is thin. Here, Jade meets Rhazan. Rhazan is imprisoned in another plane and runs a bar. When the two encounter giant space cockroach with an affinity for sugar the two work together to create wards.
I absolutely loved the banter and chemistry between Jade and Rhazan. I laughed aloud at her nickname for him and the bickering that was anything but. We learn why Rhazan was imprisoned and about a secret law enforcement agency that monitors them.
As Jade and her family work to reopen the cafe, we meet new allies, discover hidden dangers and learn that Jade has not yet unlocked her full powers. As outside dangers grow and the relationship between Jade and Rhazan deepens, I found I could not set this book down.
The story has depth, heart, humor and plenty of sizzling heat. I rooted for them and was curious about the world revealed to us. For fans of the series, we get to see the previous couple who are tied to Rhazan. Secondary characters enhanced the story, from a new friend to grandmother’s wisdom.
Oh No! There’s an Infrit in my Cosmic Cafe was another fantastic cozy from Holt. I confess I am looking forward to the next Demons book. You can find book one, Oh No! There’s an Incubus in my Hot Spring, on Kindle Unlimited and Audible. Oh No! There’s a Demon in My Bookshop will release in June 2026.
