Hello again, dear audiobook friends! Today’s spotlight article is dedicated to Dying for News, Book 4 in The Bernie O’Dea mystery series by newspaper editor and author Maureen Milliken.

I’m always up for a good mystery, but I’m even more excited about this audiobook because it’s performed by one of my favorite narrators – singer, former author, and voiceover artist Trudi Knoedler. With a runtime of almost 14 hours, this should keep me tied up for a few long nights!

I’ll introduce you to our author and narrator below, but first, let’s take a look at the Publisher’s Summary

When newspaper owner and editor Bernadette “Bernie” O’Dea’s house burns down on New Year’s Eve with an unidentified body in the charred rubble – who may or may not be her missing tenant – it’s clear the new year won’t be nice and quiet after all.

Bernie is already navigating boyfriend and police chief Pete Novotny’s increasingly challenging struggle with PTSD, so when the arson and murder investigation narrows its focus on her, she plunges into work trying to find an oasis of normalcy. Getting to the bottom of the local college’s plans for expansion is just the ticket.

Or not.

What Bernie thought would be a simple story isn’t simple at all, and she begins to uncover a dark conspiracy, with tentacles that reach to every corner of Redimere, including into Pete’s troubled police department.

The farther Bernie digs, the more tragic, and ultimately deadly, the consequences.

Trudi Knoedler is a singer, former author, and a voice actress with 26 audiobooks to her credit, primarily fiction but also some non-fiction titles. She was privileged to narrate Maureen Milliken’s Bernie O’Dea Mystery Series, books 1 through 3, and has now been thrilled to continue serving up the adventures of Bernie and Pete in Dying for News

Trudi was a native German speaker as a child and enjoys bringing her ease with accents as well as her past stage acting experience to her creation of characters for your listening entertainment.

Maureen Milliken, author of The Bernie O’Dea mystery series, is a third-generation newspaper editor, whose books reflect not only her affection for journalism, but also her love of her home state, Maine.

She grew up in Augusta, Maine, and is a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. She was first a reporter, then an editor, for newspapers in Maine, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. She lives in central Maine.

The Bernie O’Dea mystery series, set at a weekly newspaper in Franklin County, Maine, includes debut Cold Hard News, No News is Bad News, Bad News Travels Fast and Dying For News, all published by Nevermore Mystery Press. [The first three were originally published by S&H Publishing, but republished with new edits and updates in 2024 by Nevermore Mystery Press].

She is also the author of two nonfiction books, “Get it Right: A Cranky Editor’s Guide to Usage, Grammar and Punctuation,” and “The Afterlife Survey” (Adams Media, 2011).

I will return as soon as possible with a full review for Dying for News by Maureen Milliken, but until then take care, stay safe, and don’t forget, always listen with your heart!
