The image features the cover art for the audiobook "Horizon" by David W. Adams. The design presents a striking visual of a celestial body with a reddish-brown hue, set against a backdrop of deep space. The surface of the planet is artistically rendered to resemble a skull, adding a dramatic and foreboding element to the imagery. The title "Horizon" is prominently displayed in bold, white capital letters across the center of the cover, while the author's name, "David W. Adams," appears in smaller white letters at the top. To the right of the cover art, there is a notification that the audiobook is available on Audible, accompanied by the Audible logo in orange and white.

Hello again, dear audiobook friends. Today’s spotlight article is dedicated to Horizon, the first book in The Frozen Planet Trilogy of horror sci-fi novels by British author David W. Adams. The audio production is just under 5 hours in length and is performed by Brandon J. Peterson. Brandon is not only the narrator but also the producer, so he is the one responsible for the excellent sound quality of this audiobook.

Before writing this spotlight article, I listened to the first chapter, and I can gladly tell you that I was blown away by the narration and the high-quality sound effects. The production sounds fantastic, and I can’t wait to continue the adventure. As a huge fan of Star Trek, The Expanse, and even horror video games like Dead Space, I think this is going to be a lot of fun.

Now, let’s check out the Publisher’s Summary, and after that, I’ll introduce you to our author and narrator, just like I always do.
There is no salvation among the stars…

With every known planet, colony or settlement empty, ruined or completely destroyed, a desperate crew of humans onboard the starship Odyssey, hear rumours of a mythical phenomenon called The Horizon. This magical place on the edge of known space is believed to transport those who traverse it back in time to the moment they were at their happiest.

With only death, heartache and baron wastelands surrounding them, the crew of the Odyssey head towards the Horizon. However to reach this phenomenon, they must cross The Expanse – a 30-day trip through entirely empty space.

No light, no stars, no planets… nothing.

At least that’s what they think…

From the author of the Dark Corner series, comes a new trilogy of pure unbridled science fiction horror, with twists and turns around every bulkhead, and murderous carnivorous eyes in every shadow…

The author, David W. Adams, was born on 7th September 1988 in Wolverhampton, UK. He had won numerous literary prizes during his school years, writing the beginnings of various stories and then never seeing them through.

In 2020 during the Coronavirus Pandemic, David began rekindling his passion for writing, and created the 10 short horror stories which would later feature in The Dark Corner. However, this compilation would not be published until January 2021.

In 2021, David published five books in total, including his first novel, Wealdstone which featured the surviving characters from the short stories in The Dark Corner and sequel Return to the Dark Corner, uniting to stop an Earth-threatening enemy. From there on, the Dark Corner Series was born, and whilst it currently stands at 11 books, the series will conclude in 2025 with the final two entries, The Darkest Corner and Wealdstone: Awakening.

In 2023, David published his first novel outside of this collection, entitled Horizon, which was the first in a new series of sci-fi horrors with the overall name of The Frozen Planet Saga. In July 2024, the prequel to this story, Ransome, was released, ahead of the third book, Emergence, which released in September. The final book, Vengeance is due for publication Summer 2025.

David currently resides on the island of Portland, in Dorset, UK with his wife and fellow author Charlotte, and daughter Molly.

Our narrator, Brandon J Peterson, is an up and coming audiobook professional with a growing number of titles under his belt. Having started in 2021 he has done everything from sci-fi to romance and loved every second of it. He has worked hard to be proficient in audio editing and recording so as to provide quality audio. He has read numerous books out loud to live audiences and enjoys telling stories. One of his favorite formats to tell stories is while playing Dungeons & Dragons with friends and family. He is a father of five small children and husband to an amazingly gorgeous wife. He is an audiobook narrator who enjoys reading a wide range of books on a quest to be more well read than his wife.

I will return soon with a full review for Horizon: The Frozen Planet Trilogy, Book 1, but until then take care, stay safe and don’t forget, always listen with your heart!
