Tokyo Tempos is the remarkable fourth audiobook in the award-winning Tokyo Moments series – a collection of flawlessly written essays set against the vibrant and ever-evolving backdrop of Tokyo, Japan.
Esteemed professor and multiple award-winning author Michael Pronko once again captivates his audience with another nonfiction literary masterpiece, offering an insightful exploration of everyday life in Japan’s capital. His focus remains on its inhabitants, their habits, and the intricacies of their way of life.
Having discovered Michael’s work about five years ago, I continue to be pleasantly surprised every time I listen to one of his audiobooks. As I mentioned earlier, his writing is flawless, but beyond that, he possesses a rare ability to observe, understand, and connect with the people of Tokyo in ways that few other authors can. I won’t attempt to summarize his observations, as I wouldn’t do them justice, but if you’re interested in Tokyo, Japan, or the Japanese way of life, this series is an absolute must.
Multi-award-winning narrator and actor Peter Berkrot once again steps behind the mic, guiding us through Michael’s thoughtful observations and insightful recollections with warmth and precision. Peter’s voice and narration style are perfectly suited for this type of audiobook, making every word, every phrase, and every moment spent alongside him in Tokyo an absolute delight.
Michael and Peter have been collaborating for several years now, and their partnership has resulted in some of the most engaging and enjoyable audiobooks centered on Tokyo. Whether you’re drawn to factual explorations or prefer fiction, their work is sure to entertain and inspire. Tokyo Tempos continues to enrich the Tokyo Moments series, adding depth and nuance to its already outstanding collection of essays.
If you have an interest in the themes explored in this book, I highly recommend checking it out. At the same time, if you lean more toward fiction, I can’t conclude this review without encouraging you to explore Michael’s award-winning and bestselling Detective Hiroshi series – also narrated by the renowned Peter Berkrot.
