Spy drama fans, this one is for you. Apple TV+ TV show Slow Horses, starring Gary Oldman and Kristin Scott Thomas, has just released new episodes, with more dropping over the next few weeks.
Gary Oldman’s character leads a team of disgraced MI5 agents who often get tasked with investigating schemes that could endanger the country, and the show has soared in popularity since its third season.
We’ve just been treated to the first few episodes of season four, and even more excitingly the show has already been renewed for season five. Each season is based on a series of spy novels by Mick Herron.
Here’s everything we know about Slow Horses.
Slow Horses plot
The series itself is described as a “quick-witted spy thriller, [following] a dysfunctional team of MI5 agents – and their obnoxious boss, the notorious Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman)”.
Season four is based on Mick Herron’s novel Spook Street, which explores the life of series regular River’s grandfather David, who used to work with Jackson back in the day. David comes under threat due to knowledge he holds from his time as an agent, but Jackson is suspicious of his motivations and keen to protect River.
There will also be repercussions from the end of season three, which saw River leak sensitive documents at MI5. When he asks his David for advice, his grandfather throws the documents in the fire – so River is caused to ask big questions about his own grandfather’s morality.
We know from a sneak peak at season four that a bomb goes off in London, with Gary Oldman’s Jackson declaring that one of his team is dead. Is true, and if so who?
