Unspoken Truths
4.5 out of 5 stars
Having read 13 books in the Silence Jones series, you’d think I’d have the formula figured out: hard-hitting action, gritty mysteries, and an unstoppable vigilante navigating the shadows. But Erik Carter has a knack for keeping even seasoned fans on their toes. Unspoken not only delivers the pulse-pounding intensity we’ve come to expect but also offers something more — a deeper dive into the enigma that is Silence Jones.
This time, the mission feels personal, not just for Silence but for the reader. The premise alone is chilling: a con man preying on the grieving with promises of reconnecting with lost loved ones. The emotional weight of the story adds an extra layer of tension. Carter’s storytelling is razor-sharp, but there’s an added nuance here, peeling back some of the layers of Silence’s stoic exterior. It’s as if we’re finally getting glimpses behind the curtain of a character who’s built his life around shadows and silence.
Of course, what’s a Silence Jones novel without its trademark action? The choreography of chaos is as precise as ever, with the kind of detail that makes you hold your breath during fight scenes. Yet, the quieter moments hit just as hard. The exploration of grief, deception, and trust doesn’t just fuel the plot — it gives it heart. I found myself reflecting on how loss shapes us and how hope, even false hope, can be a dangerous lure.
Gary Bennett’s narration is, as always, pitch-perfect. Honestly, I can’t imagine anyone else stepping into Silence’s shoes (or his gravely voice, for that matter). His voice carries the weight of every unspoken word, amplifying the suspense and emotional gravity of the story. From the beginning, he’s been the voice of this series, and his consistency is a key reason these audiobooks are such an immersive experience. The subtle grit, the measured calm before an explosive moment — Bennett is Silence Jones.
Carter’s willingness to evolve the series keeps it fresh, even 13 books in. If you’ve read earlier entries like Dead Air (an absolute page-turner), you’ll appreciate how Unspoken balances familiar high-stakes thrills with a more introspective undertone. And if you’re new to the world of Silence Jones, don’t worry — this standalone entry is a perfect introduction (but the whole series is an easy recommendation from me).
Ultimately, Unspoken is more than just another action-packed thriller. It’s a testament to Erik Carter’s ability to craft stories that entertain and resonate.
Book Description:
UNSPOKEN GRIEF.
UNSEEN DANGER.
When vigilante assassin Silence Jones is tasked with investigating a wave of mysterious disappearances, he finds himself on the trail of a ruthless con man preying on the grieving—those desperate for a chance to see their lost loved ones again.
But beneath the surface of this deception lies a far more sinister plot, one that threatens to pull Silence into a labyrinth of lies and half-truths.
As he digs deeper, Silence must outmaneuver a foe who thrives on exploiting loss and pain. In a city of ghosts, where every corner hides a buried secret, the line between hunter and hunted grows thin, and the cost of failure becomes more than Silence can afford to pay.
The next standalone action thriller in the pulse-pounding series. Enter the world of Silence Jones. Hold on tight…
If you like action heroes with the steely resolve of Lee Child’s Jack Reacher, the calculating will of Gregg Hurwitz’s Orphan X, and the raw power of Mark Greaney’s Gray Man, then you’ll love Silence Jones.
