Mister McHottie by Pippa Grant – That’s What I’m Talking About…

I originally read and reviewed this book on Goodreads in December 2019.

This is the first book in Pippa Grant’s HILARIOUS Girl Band Books but the third one I’ve read. When I first picked up Stud in the Stacks last year [2018], I had no clue that it was related to any other books, so I read the books out of order. Long story short, I’m now a huge fan of all things Pippa Grant, and I’ve found useful into on her website for reading order and series info.

So Sia and Chase – even though I’ve seen them together in two books, it was great getting their story. It also helps frame the series a bit better for me. Sia and Chase grew up together. He was her twin brothers’ best friend. He treated her like a little sister, until one night a prank went too far, and just after her high school graduation, they slept together in a stolen bratwurst truck. When she gets caught naked and alone, he let her take the fall. She was arrested, ridiculed, and lost her acceptance to her dream school. She hasn’t spoken to him since. Now Chase is a billionaire and just bought the grocery store chain where Sia works in marketing. While he didn’t know she was there, he’s determined to make her pay for taking away his best friends because (he thought) they were better than him.

Mister McHottie is the ultimate frenemies-to-lovers story. The pair have hot, dirty sex over and over, while hurling insults and dodging witty banter. It’s only as they spend more time together that they realize maybe there is more to their relationship than angry sex. Unfortunately, misunderstandings and ignorance over the truth in events from their youth, lead to heartache on the road to their HEA. The story has lots of laughs, but brings an emotional component that drives their love.

Narration: I enjoyed the performances of Ava Erickson and Aiden Snow. The story is shared in the alternating, first person POVs of Sia and Chase, and both narrators are equally suited to their roles. Mr. Snow has a gravely, deep voice, giving Chase a very sexy vibe. His female voices (most notably Sia) are softer and distinguishable, and while not overly feminine, it works well. Ms. Erickson is perky and lively, bringing Sia’s frantic thought process to life. In addition, she is able to add emotion and feeling into the characters. Her males are deeper than the females and fitting for the story. I loved her Minnesota accent for Sia’s mom!

In the end, another fun, wonderful story from Ms. Grant.
