Review: One True King by Amy Daniels, narrated by an extended cast
One True King is the third audiobook in the excellent Legends from Qiledara series written by fantasy author Amy Daniels. It is always nice to return to the world of Qiledara and to see how this installment continues the larger adventure while raising the stakes for the characters I’ve come to know along the way.
Without getting into spoilers, the story takes place at a moment when the balance across the kingdoms feels fragile. Threats are growing, loyalties are tested, and the journey at the center of the story becomes more urgent than ever before.
Amy Daniels keeps the adventure moving with a good mix of action, tension, and character-driven moments. Although the story expands in scale, the focus remains on the people at its heart.
The world-building continues to be one of the strengths of the series as Qiledara feels like a place with real history. The kingdoms, the characters, the locations, and these adventures are well thought out and beautifully delivered through writing by Amy.
The audio production takes advantage of an extended cast, and the approach works very well for this type of fantasy story. All the voice actors involved in the production do a great job bringing the characters to life. Each performer has a primary character, but they also step in to voice smaller or supporting roles when needed. That gives the dialogue variety and energy, while still keeping the story easy to follow during scenes with several characters interacting.
One True King is a solid continuation of the Legends from Qiledara series, so if you’ve been enjoying the journey through Qiledara so far, this audiobook offers another engaging chapter in the larger unfolding adventure.
